Why can't I get my NVidia 7300 video card into 2560x1600 resolution?

I have a 3007WFP Dell monitor and an NVidia GeForce 7300 GS video card. The video card thinks that my monitor can only handle 1280x1024 but it can handle 2560x1600. When ever I try to set to a higher resolution I always get a virtual desktop of that size rather than an actual 2560x1600. I've tried most of the obvious things, getting drivers, messing with obvious settings.|||does windows see the monitor as the 3007wfp, or as a simple plug and play monitor?

in the settings tab of the display properties.. ideally, it should say dell 3007wfp on nvidia geforce 7300gs..

if it doesnt (its entirely possible the dell driver didnt install because it wasnt digitally signed).. hit (not literally.. lol) the advanced button, then switch to the monitor tab..if you've installed the 3007wfp's drivers correctly, you should be able to change the display from here (or the device manager in the system control panel option)..

click properties.. then the driver tab.. update driver..

then yes this time only in the hardware update wizard..

then install from a specific location..

next screen, pick dont search, i'll choose the driver to install..uncheck show compatible hardware, then move down to the dell computer corp in the manufacturer list.. see if the 3007 wfp is listed, and highlight it if it is and click next..

hopefully that should fix it
