In assembling computers what use is the video card for other than games?

im an artist using photoshop and illustrator for artwork. can i do away with video card? i'll use it also for watching tv programs and probably do animation projects.|||I have built many computers for graphics artists. This is the card that I'm currently recommending and putting into machines:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Very decent price and much better suited for graphics work, as opposed to a card geared more towards gaming.|||Its also used to see your computer monitor and see what your doing on the computer|||For anything graphics intensive, you'll need the video card. Photoshop, animation, and watching TV definitely all fit in that category. You definitely want the card. Integrated video sucks, because it uses your system memory and CPU power, which is also being used for everything else.|||The video card IS required for rendering what you see on your monitor. For photo shop you don't need a gamer's top of the line type but you shouldn't use the very low end. Most low end computers have a video card built onto the motherboard and it's not necessary to purchase an upgraded card if you don't need one.

When I bought my last video card I bought the top of the line from the LAST generation which was better than the middle of the line of the new generation cards and much less expensive.|||The video card is an essential component of any computer....you must have one in order to connect a monitor to your PC.

If you are using the world's top photo software (Photoshop) I think you should definitely invest in a quality graphics adapter (video cards).

regards,

Philip T|||If you do away with the video card, you're artwork will come out kind of dark.

Can I replace my very low end laptop video card?

THe Video Card is a ATI Radeon X1200 onboad video card, and from what I've read it is very bad for gaming. I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.|||No in a laptop there is simply nothing you can do short of overclocking the GPU and I don't advise it because on boards don't always have a heatsink attached. The trick to surviving with on board video is simple, find out what its good at, usually integrated cards are great for emulation because often emulation depends more on your CPU rather then your GPU. Try tweaking the games you have a little, you would be surprised little it sometimes takes to make a game run well and still look pretty good.|||Typically video cards on laptops are not upgradable.|||You have to check and see if their are relpacment video cards for that particular laptop.|||No, sorry there is no way to replace a laptop video card. Last I heard ATI was working on an external video card but it's been about 18 months since that story was released and I still don't see anything on ATI's website about it.

How can I fix my black monitor screen when I installed "nvidia geforce 7950 gt video card"?

Hi everyone,

So my friend has just purchased a Nvidia geforce 7950 GT video card", and when he installed it, everything was correct. Execpt one minor problem, when he started his computer up, his comp made a funky sound and nothing would show on the monitor screen( pure black screen). But when he took it back out everything was back to normal, anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks|||1) if you were using the on-board graphics did you change this in the BIOS? If not, there's your trouble.

Good Luck|||Check the BIOS and see if there is a setting that sets which video adapter the system is supposed to use. Mine has three settings, onboard, VGA, or PCIe.|||So you inserted the card into your computer and plug the monitor into it. You booted up into windows and installed the drivers. When the computer was restarted the computer made usual noises and the screen would not show up. You took the card out and everything was fine again.

It sounds like a compatibility issue you have. Either from the software you just installed or the hardware on your computer.

What model and specs does your computer have? My advice is to find that out and check online to see if your new video card is right for your computer spec wise.

Is there a way to make my video card better without buying it?

Is there a way to make my video card better without buying it?|||The only thing that boost performance is overclocking but you can damage it but it's unlikely. You have two software links above for overclocking i say riva tuner is better you can download it it's free google it. And then you overclock with small steps the frequencies, important there are cards where you can enable pixel shader or vertex shaders so you can have from a nvidia 6200gt an 6600 which is pretty nice so google this to: like overclocking {your graphic card name}.|||upgrade the drivers|||well it depends, what card you have there is some overclocking so if its an ATI card you can check out

http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

and for nvidia card

http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/ & http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.…

but WARNING if you increase any of the details to much you risk, wasting the card, since overclocking the cards will cause them to heat up even more, and will require extra cooling

Do I need a HD video card to use a HD webcam to it's full extent?

Im thinking about buying a HD webcam and i was wondering, do i need a HD video card for this to work ? I'd imagine it would but would the HD card improve the quality or would i just be waisting my money ?

Thanks, Paul.|||well it depends on if YOU are going to be watching the web cam - if not then it all depends on if the other end has an HD video card to really benefit. to be honest i don't think it's worth the money - get an 8MP web cam and that will be as clear as the other end can handle - unless you have a massive upload speed limit anything above 8MP including HD is going to be really glitchy due to the amount of data it has to send per second.

if you are going to be watching it you will need an HD video card AND monitor to reap the benefits

I need to buy a PC with an HDMI option on my video card. How to I ensure the card is HDMI compatible?

Can I just buy a video card with this compatibility or would I need a new PC? It would be nice to have either option available. Is this a standard feature on some of the newer PCs? Thank you.|||It's a standard feature on most newer PCs, but you should be able to buy a graphics card with that option instead of replacing your existing PC.

HDMI is a different physical plug than DVI or VGA. See this image for a comparison:

http://www.jdr.com/interact/..%5Cimages%…

The smaller one is the HDMI. A video card with HDMI output would state that prominently somewhere on the package or in the description of the product online.|||what do you mean with HDMI compatible? like the HDMI cable? if u mean that there is no such thing from an videocard output there is only DVI and VGA. Im guessing all u want is a HD resulution? Get a new videocard for like 200 bucks will do the stuff

How to add a realplayer video on a Micro SD card?

Ok so i downloaded realplayer on my comp and downloaded a youtube video on it. I want to put the video on my micro SD card but it doesnt options for"copying to" button. help =/|||If the device which has the card has a realplayer installed, then it can play Youtube videos. If not, try to convert the video to mp4 or other formats which the device supports.Converting to a lower format lowers the file size but that depends on the quality and the bitrate of the audio. If you can't just copy it, then move it there instead.

How good does Battlefield 2 on pc run with a 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE video card?

Its the cheapest video card that comes with my computer. Will it run smoothly? or barely getting there.|||It doesn't take a GREAT graphics card to run it well, I'm an avid BF2 player, and I just recently got a new gateway computer, but its an athlon dual processor. The only drawback is the on board graphics card. Its about the same exact card as that and it runs well with the graphics on medium, and looks pretty decent. Although I would never recommend keeping an on board card to use. Tomorrow I am spending a tiny chunk of change (compared to most of the graphics cards today) $63 ATI - Radeon x 1050 256mb DDR card. I would suggest using ATI since most games are mainly tested with ATI.|||With 256 mb of video ram there shouldn't be any problems there. As long as the program doesn't bottleneck anywhere else ie ram or pcu you should be just fine. Some people run BF2 with 128mb video cards (not as well.)|||I assume it should just do the job.......but don't expect to use high quality settings....|||I would say, bf2 would not run very well with a 7300le.

I would look into getting a better videocard. I don't know your other system spec's, like cpu and system ram. Those can help make a difference also.

Here is a reference link also for ya.

I am upgrading my video card and i dont understand how to disable the built in video adapter?

its a dell optiplex gx260. i bought the new video card but after the computer boots the screen goes black. any ideas?? i disabled it from device manager. and it didnt work|||You need to disable it in the BIOS. Hit Del just after the happy beep when you switch it on. Keep tapping until the BIOS screen shows up. Be careful here and only change the setting for the on-board VGA adapter. Flick through the menus until you find it.|||You have to go into the BIOS. when you 1st turn on your computer you have to hit F2 or something like that look and read screen to see which button enters setup. Then while in the bios look for on board video and disable it. Did you hook up your monitor cable to the new card or are you still on the hookup for on board. Sometimes you gotta have your monitor hooked up to your on board video till you net to disable in the BIOS then switch to the new video card.|||When the system boots and shows the Dell Screen (or is counting memory) press the Del key to have it go into bios, then go to through the options and find the Video Card options and disable it. Should be under like Integrated perephials.

Can i install video card even if i have integrated graphics?

Can i just install the video card or do i have to disable the integrated one first? Its Nvidia 880 GTX. SO do i just put it into my computer or what?|||Yes, you can install the video card (assuming it fits - some of those high end cards are LONG)

I'm assuming you mean the GeForce 8800 GTX - which is a pretty good card even by today's standards.

You will need 2x 6-pin PCIe power connectors to run this card, so you should be looking at a 550+W power supply upgrade at the same time. The stock 300W PSU in that Gateway doesn't have a chance of working with that card.|||Find a PCI-E port on your mother board, located under the CPU, at the bottom of the case near a wireless card, plug the card in (be gentle but make sure that it is firmly in place), screw in the screw to hold it in, plug in any extra power connectors it has on the right end, and then close up your case, boot up your computer and run the disk included with the card. Restart your computer after installing from the disk, the go to http://www.nvidia.com download the latest driver for your card/operating system, restart, and then you should be all good!

Basically, No disabling the integrated graphics, and just follow the steps to put it in!|||sure can....as long as its not a laptop and you have a big enough PSU and the room in your case. if you are having problems then you might need to disable it in the bios, but it should do it automatically or let you use both cards|||Once you install the add-on video card it will automatically disable the on-board video card.|||yup, after u have installed the new card, u should enter bios and disable the onboard video.

Replacing a video card on a mac laptop?

I still REALLY want to get steam games for my mac. But I got my mac about 3 years ago so it's pretty old. I can't get these games on steam because I don't have a right video card. So I was wondering if I could buy a new video card somewhere and replace it. Could anyone tell me how/where to do this? Thanks.|||not possible its intergrated with the motherboard

How do i find out what Video card i have on my laptop (vista) ?

i need to know the video card capabilities on my ASUS laptop to see if i can play a game on it sufficiently.

does anyone know how i find this specification on my vista laptop?

thanks|||device manager and click on the vid adapter.|||You can go to the ASUS website and look up the model of the laptop then look at the specs or

right click on the DESKTOP go to properties and settings and it should show the model name of the Video card well what driver is there which will tell you what you need to know to google the specs.

of you need the memory status and cpu just right click on my computer and go to properties and it will be there on the main screen.|||First, try to locate/find "System Information" or "System Properties" from your laptop by right-clicking "My Computer", select "Properties". This will open the "System Properties" window. Click "Hardware" from the tab menu. Then click "Device Manager". This will open "Device Manager" window. After this, locate "Display Adapters". From this, you may find-out what video card is currently installed in your laptop.

Additional information:

To view the Properties of the installed video card, just right-click the name of the video card then select Properties.

Hope this helps ;-)|||Okay, under Start Menu/Programs, go to Accessories/System Tools, and there should be System Information. That should list what your GPU is. Alternately, go to Display Properties, click the Settings tab, then click the Advanced button. That will open another window. How do I change my video card?

Is it straight forward to change my video card? I want to upgrade to Windows Vista. I ran the compatibility programme and it suggested I upgrade my video card. Which would be the best card without spending a fortune? I currently run an ATI Radeon 9200 card in my Packard bell i xtreme desktop. Can anyone help!!??|||You don't mention on wether or not you plan on upgrading anything else. If not, I take it your going to stick with the AGP video card format? What is a fortune for you? I would visit a site like Newegg.com, and search for AGP video cards, and see what is in your price range. They are still making AGP cards, but it won't be for long as PCI-E is taking over. For something that will handle Vista, (and be able to handle a few newer games) you will probably have to spend between 120-150 bucks. I'd suggest something with at least 256 megs of memory

Swapping out video cards is quite simple. Pop off side cover to your pc, unscrew hold in tab, pull out card and repeat. Newer cards may require an available power plug in as well. (from PSU)|||The best value card out there is Nvidia GeForce 512mb

nVIDIA Geforce 6600 PCI-E 512 MB DDR2 Video Card V56

I have that one and for the money its real good. You can play battlefield 2, fear, you name it. Make sure you find out first before getting a card if your card is:

pci or pci express or agp Then get one of those 3 cards.

How can I tell what Video Card I have?

I've gone into DxDiag and it says that there is NO video card which is impossible because I can play games and watch videos. My Computer is an HP Pavilion a566n, which is old as dirt, but I want to know what the video card is so that I can get the drivers and enjoy WoW. If you could maybe tell me a list of possible video cards and a picture of them for me, then I could take apart the computer and figure it out that way. Thanks if you can help|||You have integrated video. I'm sure that your system is too old to play WoW. Drivers are not going to make an obsolete video adapter that much better. Buy or build a new system, that's 7 yrs old

If a game requires more than my video card has will it start taking away from my ram?

ok so im getting a new laptop and the highest video card i could get, without having an integrated one, was a 128 nvidia graphics card. if a game requires ... 256 will the game work by taking away from my ram or will it just not work at all??? i have 3 gb of ram so it would be a really good thing if it would.|||Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. Integrated video cards aren't good for playing games and chances are, it won't work. Doesn't hurt to try though|||As per Justin's answer, no. General memory and graphic card memory are totally separate. If your graphics card does not have enough memory, then the game will not play properly (usually there will be display issues, or the game may not run at all).

If you want to play games then you really need to invest in some decent graphics hardware, however this isn't necessarily expensive. My Benq Joybook R55V laptop comes with an integrated nVidia Geforce Go 7400 and it plays many new games just fine.

At the top end of the market, the Dell XPS and Alienware high performance PCs are definitely the way to go, if you can afford one.

What are the best settings for a nvidea video card?

i just got a new computer and i need to know the best settings for the Nvidea video card. The only game im playing right now is Spore and some of the graphics look edgy. So if someone can tell me the best settings that would be great. Thanks.|||ok instaed of me banging on for the next two hours with loads of boring text , read this..all of it , and you'll soon be as good as me ;0)

Would it be worth buying a new video card?

Here's my specs:

P4 2.6GHz

2 GB RAM

AGP 4x8x Bus

I want to buy a new video card but I'm wondering if it'd be like putting a chandelier in a haunted house? Moreover, would I even get a performance gain considering my other hardware is so old? I mainly play The Sims 3 if that helps.|||If you just play things like the sims or wow I'd say go for it but dont spend much over 100 because AGP is gone for good and if you ever get a new computer there is zero chance you can use it. But if you are going to play games like call of duty 4 or Crisis I'd say wait and save up for a whole new machine.

What is a good gaming video card that is under 150$?

I play world of warcraft and my graphics and speed are not good, so what is a good type of video card that i can use to Enhance my game play?|||You don't need a very powerful card just to play wow.it is not a graphics intensive game still in $150,you can get HD 5770 which is a nice gaming card and can play WOW at full max settings.

it is also good for other latest games.|||I agree, the 9800 is a pretty good card.|||Nvidia 9800 gt|||i agree with you. but there are a lot better cards out there (over 250 dollars)

Where can I find a video card for my Dell Dimension 3000 desktop computer?

I have a Dell Dimension 300 desktop computer, the monitor quit working but works when I connect it to my labtop... I was told that is needs a video card? where can I find these for a good price?

Thanks|||Ok, I researched your computer. And you have a PCI slot. So that's the kind of video card you need. Now do you just want the computer monitor to work? Or do you also want to game?

There are 3 types of video card connections. PCI , AGP, PCI-E. So make sure you just pick a PCI card. You have an older technology, so PCI-E will not work.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

That's your best bet. You can play games too. Not very good though. PCI isn't really for gaming!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

all those cards should work with your system.

And this is how to install it.

Onboard sound gone after installing new video card?

I bought a new video card, Installed the drivers, ect. Everything works fine, but not the sound. The onboard sound is now not working at all. Whats the problem?

2nd thing, I cant get into bios. I pressed f8 to get it, it tells me to pick a hard drive, I pick the master. Then it just goes to windows loading screen. Whats the problem here?|||W/O knowing your OS I can't give exact instructions. But for XP go to start and in the run box type "devmgmt.msc". You will see a listing problem in the Sound Video and Game section. RT click and delete it. Go up to the word ACTION and Scan for new hardware. Windows will try to find the drivers but don't be surprised if this does not work. IF not

Go to the support website for the motherboard and download the latest published audio drivers and install them.

Where can I locate the Video Card on my laptop?

I need to update my video card because I want to play wizard101.

Its an Acer laptop!

Thanks for all your help! x|||Whats the model? Does it has a dedicated graphics card? If it has, is it upgradeable?

Better take it to a Acer service center. Its hard to answer when you don't provide all details.

BTW, graphics card is connected to the motherboard(to get there you gotta remove the back panel).|||Almost in every laptop, you can not change your graphics card. But still you can locate your video card by removing the case bottom of your laptop. Also note that in most cases unscrewing any screw of laptop will cause you to loose your guarantee. (They are using lock-tite to determine whether you have opened the case).|||It's soldered onto your logic board. To upgrade your GPU, you buy a new laptop. End of story.|||I'm really sorry, but you can't

It is impossible to change graphic cards in laptops. You can only do that on desktops.|||you cant update video card in laptops sorry.

How to determine wich video card will fit?

So for example i have motherboard, and i using DDR2 port for RAM. does it mean that it's have to be DDR2 for video card too?|||What you need to look into is , what kind of slot does it have in you motherboard, it could either be PCI or PCI-E , those are the two commonly used for commercial PC. A ddr2 memory, doesn't affect the needed data rate of video card. so its pointless in asking.

PS. be sure that the Motherboard could support the "clock rate" of the video card|||If you have a newer computer any card will fit. What you want to check is that the power supply in the computer will handle the extra load of the card. Most computers ether have a 300 or 500 watt power supply.check the wattage in yours and buy accordingly.

The last one I bough had an extra gig of memory on board.I got mine from tiger direct and you can call to make sure you are getting the correct one.Great service.www.tigerdirect.com

Good luck and stay grounded.

Is my video card good enough for gaming?

According to my laptop, (Inspiron 1545) my video card is a Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family. I know which video cards are good so don't give me a list please, I'd just like to know if i need a better one.|||You don't have a graphics card at all. You are running in an integrated graphics environment, which basically means that the "card" is built-in to the motherboard rather than having it's own dedicated card (and resources). Recently, integrated graphics have been getting better, but ultimately having an actual card is better for performance. One good test is to run Doom 3 on highest settings. If it runs seamlessly, it should be able to run most of the current games, albeit on reduced settings.

Plus, laptops aren't built for performance anyway.|||You technically don't even have a graphics "card", you have an integrated graphics "chip" which leaches off other system parts (cpu, ram, etc.) in order to make up a graphics card, but they are very slow and really can't do much 3d stuff well, you might, again MIGHT, be able to play oblivion since its an older game and it sounds like the rest of your system is good, but i wouldn't count on it. certainly no cheating and adding 10k watermellons (lol). Your laptop wasn't made with gaming in mind, and that means that it doesn't have an extra slot for a graphics card to go, you can't upgrade. Sorry, i would try oblivion, but don't get your hopes up.

Anytime I try to run a 3D application my computer freezes? Tried 5 different video card driver versions?

What is wrong? My screen has gone pink, will buying a new monitor fix it, if the video card is faulty?

My computer monitor has gone a shady pink colour, ive been trying everything to solve this, and the main conclusion seems to be video card or graphics driver, but will buying a new monitor change this, and if the problem is inside the computer how will a new monitor bring my screen back to normal.

Is there a way out of this please anyone.|||You can only sort it out by substitution.as other poster said ,try the screen on another pc or laptop with a vga/dvi output .if its still pink then check the card.It may be overheating and full of fluff so clean it.If that does'nt work then try another card,I reccommend ATI cards as they run a lot cooler and are more evolved.Another problem maybe that you've added some extra hardware thats sapped your power supply and the vid card can't get enough juice, but this last fault is unlikely with a 500watt plus power supply unless its a monster video card.|||It's probably because of your screen problem. it'll get fixed if you buy a new one. But you can also get it fixed in the care center or in a computer shop!|||Try your monitor on another PC. That will you will know for sure whether it's the video card or not.|||You should change the new screen. Video card is not fault.

i don't have experience with changing computer parts, it changing a video card is easy?|||it is easy so long as your power supply is greater than the minimum needed to run your hardware set up...if you are swapping out a video card with another like one then it's just slip old out and new in while avoiding static electricity...easily avoided if you are connected to the computer at all times...but...if you are upgrading it...you need to make sure your power supply can handle it...what kind of card and wattage of powersupply you have? Also what kind of GPU slot you have available?|||Yes, very easy, just google a tutorial if you need additional help.|||Yes.

Open the side and unscrew the card that the monitor is plugged in to. You may need to pull or push a clip on the far end of the card, close to the motherboard, in order to just pull it out.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=change+…|||Its pretty simple and only involves slotting in the card to a slot on the motherboard then installing the drivers usually of a CD that comes with the card. Just make sure you get the right card for your M/board.|||Yes very easy, but you should ground yourself to discharge static electricity, just touch you computer case before opening it, if not you can damage parts of your computer.

But it means buying a new video card. And an old board may not give you any such options to begin with.

Or it may be possible to upgrade, but only to some ancient model of video card which you will most likely not find for sale anywhere, other than ebay.

But without knowing the make and model of the motherboard, no way to to tell.

This is also more than 2x the power of the last card mentioned, and for the price thats really good, and means you dont have to upgrade for longer and you will have LESS LAGG!!!

MWAHAHAHA!!!!

Trust me,this is THE best at an affordable price!!!

ATI always wins with the low to mid range graphics, and more recently, they win at the high end game too :) (reminds me of the Radeon 9800 days).......so when looking for an AFFORDABLE card with GREAT performance, then look no further than ATI!(this goes for high end too!!)

My notebook gets hot where the video card is. Is there a way to slow it down and underclock my laptop when I am not using it for graphic intensive activities?|||you can under clock it, per se, but not selectively, you would have to re-under clock, and re-over clock it every time u wanted to change it.

sorry to spill it to u.

however, one other thing to mention, is that your graphics card should only get nuclear hot if it's really being used intensively, and if you're not doing much, and it still is nuking ur crotch area, you might want to have it looked at by a pro.

Which video card is a better suggestion?

Since my processors and ram are pretty good, the only problem my computer actually have is the outdated video card, an Ati HD 4300 1 GB DDR2.

So i was thinking, which one should i get at the moment, i was thinking of the EVGA GeForce GTS450 FPB 1 GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card 01G-P3-1450-TR on amazon since it's at 120 dollars and my limit is pretty much 150 at the moment.

Any suggestions?|||GTX 460. Big step up.

What slot does my video card use?

I want to buy a PCI video card to run the game, Rift. But do figure out if I have a PCI slot, I need to open up the computer. And I was just wondering what my Intel(R) GMA 3100 uses as a slot. Thanks.|||First of all, DO NOT BUY A PCI VIDEO CARD. It will be SLOWER than your GMA 3100 graphics. Old non-express PCI is horribly hobbled by its EXTREMELY SLOW bus speed-- 33mHz, with a peak bandwidth of just 133MB/sec.

You need to find out if your computer has a PCIExpress 16x slot. Those are what current graphics cards require. PCIExpress 16x has 32 times the bandwidth of old non-express PCI. MUCH faster.

DO NOT confuse PCI with PCIExpress. The two are TOTALLY DIFFERENT things and UTTERLY INCOMPATIBLE. They have NOTHING to do with each other despite the similarity in name.

Open up your computer and see if it has a PCIExpress 16x slot.|||Your computer most likely uses a PCI-E slot for video cards. This slot will be the top addon slot inside of your computer. The GMA 3100 is onboard which means it's built into the motherboard and you don't have to remove it, simply buy a new videocard, put it into the PCI-E slot and then hook it up and install the driver software for the videocard.|||your gma 3100 doesnt use any slots.. its whats called onboard video. its a tiny little chip built in on the motherboard. Why so reluctant to open up your pc? If its an older computer you probably have PCI or AGP and if its newer you probably have a pci express slot or two.|||That's not a "slot" its on board graphics chip...tell us the mother board or at least the make/model of computer.|||pci slots are white

agp slots are brown

pci-e slots are brown ( about an inch long )

Is it possible to upgrade my video gaming card?

the laptop is a Sony Vaio (VGN-NW350F). I bought this battlefield game to play and installed it but it nvr fully started so I uninstalled it. My friend says its bc my video card isn't good enough.|||Not on a laptop, no.|||Generally In laptop You cant upgrade Graphics card Or Processor You can upgrade Only Ram Or hard disk

If you have ever bought a laptop computer and have wondered whether you could upgrade the parts inside of it, the short answer is "maybe." Because laptops are custom-made by their manufacturers, whether you can upgrade the parts inside of them depends largely on whether the manufacturers offer parts upgrades for sale to end-users or whether the parts you want to upgrade are standard parts that don't change regardless of the computer they are installed in.

Typically Upgradeable Laptop Parts

While laptops have a certain number of parts that are custom-made, there are some that aren't and which are usually upgradeable by the end-user. These parts include the hard drive and the RAM (Random Access Memory). Hard drives for laptops come in one standard size (2.5 inches), and you are usually able to access the hard drive on a laptop by removing a few screws on the bottom of the computer. Once the hard drive is removed, you can replace it with a larger one, reinstall your operating system and utilize the increase in size immediately. You can also replace the RAM in your laptop in a similar manner, though sometimes replacing the RAM requires that you remove the keyboard from the laptop to access it. Adding additional RAM can make your laptop run faster; though, beware of trying to install too much RAM in your laptop, as laptop motherboards can only handle a certain amount. This amount varies depending on the make and model of your computer. Check with your computer manufacturer before attempting to add more RAM to your machine.

Typically Non-Upgradeable Laptop Parts

Among the list of laptop parts that are not usually upgradeable unless the manufacturer has explicitly made them so are video cards, CPUs, sound cards and motherboards. These parts are usually custom-designed so that they fit into their particular laptop chassis, so you can't just go out and purchase a standard part and upgrade them. You would have to contact the manufacturer and attempt to purchase these types of parts for your specific laptop model if you wanted to upgrade them. Video cards are more commonly upgradeable than the other parts, however, especially on high-performance gaming machines where the video cards are physically separate from the motherboard instead of being integrated into it.

What does "Video card does not have proper hardware to run" mean?

Ok I don't know anything about computers and I just got this one. So I download a game and it told me that the video card did not have proper hardware to run. What does this mean? How come I fix it? I have a Dell Latitude D610. Not sure if that really matters. I was told the computer was ready to run was I lied to?|||This means your video card is not strong enough. Unfortunately for a laptop you can't upgrade your video card without spending a lot of money but in this case, your Dell won't be able to be upgraded in video. The computer WAS ready to run and you weren't lied to but the power of your video card isn't good enough.

Is my computer wattage good enough for this video card?

i have a dell E521 and want to run a sapphire 2600XP video card on it. will it be able to run, and can i have step instructions on how to do it?|||According to Dell Support, your E521 has a 305W PSU: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy…

Since the Radeon HD2600 cards don't have a 6-pin power connector, that means they draw under 75 watts of electrical power and should work with the E521's stock PSU.

I'd recommend a newer card though, like an HD4670 or an nVidia 9500GT.

How to add more RAM to nVidia NVS 285 video card?

I have the following video card:

PNY Quadro4 NVS285 64MB 64-bit DDR PCI Express x16

I would like to know if I can expand the memory on this card. If so, what is the max memory for this card? What type of memory do I need to purchase? Thanks.|||In short, NO...the memory is built into the card, it's not like adding memory to your motherboard.|||I assume this is a 128mb card, in which case you cannot expand the memory as its integrated into the card.

The only option is to upgrade to a 256mb card.|||You can only add memory for your pc, but not the video card. You need to buy a card with more ram. Newegg.com and Pricewatch.com are the best places to find good prices on video cards.

Can i put in a nvidia geforce 8600gt video card in a dell dimension 8400?

I have a dell dimension 8400 desktop computer and i wanted to know if the nvidia geforce 8600 gt video card is compatible with it. Also since this card has a feature which allows two cards to run at once would I be able to do that with the standard video card already in (i think ati radeon x300/550/800). I am mostly concerned about power supply and space.|||yes you can run the card fine

no you cant run 2 .as the 8400 only has 1 pci express slot

and even if you could run 2 , theyd have to be the same cards

just remember to go to add/remove programs and uninstall the ATI software before switching the cards out

I would like to ask if 512mb of video card is good enough to run graphical games?

I would like to ask if 512 of video card is good enough to run pc games like gta 4 or assasins creed.|||The amount of video card RAM should not determine how well your games will run. It is the graphics chip itself that will determine how well your games will run. Nvidia 9600GT or NVIDIA 9800GT will suffice or ATI 4850 or ATI 4870 also will suffice along with 512mb of video card RAM. If you worry of whether 512mb is good enough then by all means get a video card with 1GB of video card ram for games with tremendous amounts of textures. Such as Doom3 on Ultra detail.|||GeForce 8800GT is awesome! It runs Crysis on high settings. The best part is that it's only like $150 or something like that.

Which Nvidia video card will give better performance?

I'm upgrading my video card and i may have to choose between a 7600GS with 512MB, and a 7600GT with 256MB. The GT is supposed to have somewhat better performance, but in this case it has less memory. What's the trade-off?|||I had the same dilemma and went with the 7600GS b/c of the memory. So far I havent had any problems with any of the videos or graphic intense games I've played.|||i use to pay attention to the memory until i later found out that its the core clock speed / gpu ( game processing unit ) that matters the most . go with the one with the higher value of them both

How do i get into the bios of my video card?

I trying to find out if i can get into the bios of my video card and if so how do i do it.|||You can - Search on the net (or put in your question) the model etc.. of your video card and you will find programs which will let you into the BIOS.|||Repost with information about WHICH video card. The answer is different for each.

But most high end video cards come with a utility for configurating them. Check the website of the manufacturer for the documentation of your card.|||First of all, what kind of video card you have ? ATI or Nvidia or any other brand ?

Use Nibitor for Nvidia.

For ATI...emmmm...i don't know, i never had ATI.

Question? How do you install a new video/graphics card for your computer?

Do you have to open it up, or can you install it online without ever having to open the computer? I am asking because my monitor is acting weird and the graphics look so funny now. Everything is grainy and distorted? Does anyone happen to know what the problem might be, and how to install the video card? Thanks.|||a video card is a physical component of your pc. you can't download it online. based on your problem, it is possible that either the video card or the monitor is acting up.

installing a video card is easy enough. you need to open up your case, taking necessary precautions against statics, then just plug it in on the right slot. install the drivers then you're ready to go. on some pc, you may need to configure your BIOS to disable the onboard video chip.|||What kind of video card do you have?

Download the latest driver from the manufacurers website.

also if you replace the video card it will come with instructions on how to install it. And Yes, you will have to open the computer case to install the new video card.|||you'll have to open it up and put it on your motherboard, there's a slot for a video card on it.

if you're unsure how to install one, you can always search on google which will show you how to.|||Right click on your desktop, properties, settings, slide the resolution bar to the far right. Click apply. If the display looks good, accept. If your screen goes "garbled", just wait and it will reset to the previous settings.

You have no business installing a video card if you think they can be installed online. Seek a professional if one is needed.|||You have to open the case. First uninstall the old card drivers, open the case and install the new card, then install the new card's drivers.

What is your opinon on what the best Video Card is and why?

I'd like everyone to give me their opinion on what the best video card is out today - which one have you tried or found works and for what games? It' doesn't have to be the most expensive elite card nVidia or AMD/ATI have out right now - I'm aware of those already - what I want to hear is what gamers here are finding works best for them and what game(s) they are playing. Thanks|||well i like the gtx 590 and the gtx 580 but i think they heat up too much and also consume a lot of power ... instead the gtx 570 or the 560 ti is a good choice .... also the ati 6990 ar the 6970 are also among the top 5 .... however it depends on your screen resolution and what games you are playing .... if you have a 720p monitor then a gtx 560 ti or even a gtx 460 is enough to play games like crysis 2 or splinter cell at the max settings with about 50 to 60 fps ....however if you have a 1080p resolution and wanna play the same games at the same settings then don't look at anything below the gtx 570 ...plz rate...

my specs :

intel core i5 2400

6 GB DDR3 Corsair RAM at 1333 MHZ

If ur running a game that loves quad cores but u hav a dual caore, then that will hold u back ( bottleneck). I hav a q6600 at 3.2ghz w/ a gtx 460 1gb, 4gb ram at 1680 x 1050 and this thing runs awesome. i'm not saying it's the best but it's a very nice, cool (idle 32c oc) gpu.|||GeForce GTX 590. Or the 580, they're both pretty powerful.

Need to make sure my video card will be compatible?

I have a compaq presario sr5605f it has a pci x16 slot which is the type of video card im looking at. Is there anything besides the BUS type to make sure itll work. Like ddr2 memory and so on. Just let me know everything i need to know for video card to comp compatibility. Thanks.|||There are only 2 things you have to worry about. 1 is the slot type. Second is some video cards require power from the power supply, if this is the case, make sure your PS has a 6 pin connector for a video card. So DDR2 is fine. Oh and size shouldn't matter (I mean actual size of the video card) unless your looking at a huge video card.

Whats the best thing to go buy when buying a video card?

What do you read to pick the best video card when buying on the memory clock ,size interface or type is this what you go by when buying a video card ?|||After determining what you will be doing on your computer (eg gaming or office work)there are two very important factors that should be considered when buying a video card. the first is the Gpu clock speed , in simple terms the faster the clockspeed the better resolution framerates you will get. but the clockspeed isnt the only thing you should also consider pixel pipelines. you can read about them online but basically they are like 'resovoirs' for pixels, they 'hold' them ready to be displayed on screen is the best I can explain it. So the more pixel pipelines you have (in most cases) the higher resolutions you get.

Iterface is important as your mother board has to be able to utilize the card. no point in buying a 220V appliance in the US right? memory is important as far as the manufacturer goes. for example some cards use samsung Ram which in my opinion is one of the best. basically thats about it.|||Best thing I know is system compatability. Make certain whatever card you do get will work with your CPU, Motherboard, Chipset and OS. Also is often wise to check the Totall Ram that your Mobo is capable of, like if your Mobo can handle 2g of RAM max, buy it.

Get a card with TV out on it. That is for dual monitors or the Card can be used to tune in Television Signals. Its kinda geeky, but its fun.|||I would go with the memory an avreage Video card has 256 mb, It also depends on the money if you want to get a good video card get the Ati redeon 9550 and higher it also depends on the type of slots your computer has it can have PCI or AGP or PCI Express if you are going to get a Nvidia Video card Geforce 7600 GS. good luck getting a good one.

How To get Your Computer Video Card information?

so what has happened is my mate messed up his xp computer (it kept on restarting) so i had to reinstall windows xp for him and at the start of the install it never gave him the option of repairing his install so i had to do a clean install and now his video card drivers are not installed (we do not The Name Of His Video card To even Get The Drivers) and xp is like kinda lagging and we have no video card info even in device manager? is there a way of knowing this?|||Control panel> system > hardware > device manager. once there you can view all your computer's specs :)|||Start - Run - DxDiag display tab

As for your graphic card I'd recommend this NVIDIA 9800GTX. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Where can i download complete drivers MSI CR400 video card for windows 7?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh.. i just formatted my notebook and i cant find my CD installer.. so where can i find download complete MSI CR400 video card?? free download only. thanks.|||Down below I provided you with the link to downlaod MSI's Live update online witch will provide you with every driver released for your laptop.

How do I get my monitor to support my video card?

We just got a new 19" samsung widescreen monitor but apparently our Nvidia 6800 GeForce video card does not support it and the picture is stretched out. Is there anything I can do before having to get a new video card?

The resolution i need is 1440, 900|||If the monitor cannot display resolutions as high as 1440, 900 then you need to find a monitor that does. I can't imagine a 6800 requiring such a high resolution. Alot of monitors do not display anything above 1280 x 1024 with exceptional quality and most video cards allow you to select the resolution in which to display.

Try this first:

- Right click on your desktop.

- Click on 'properties'

- At the top right hand corner, there is a "Settings" tab that you should click on.

- On the middle left hand side, there should be a slider with numbers on the that look similar to this 640 x 480 (or whatever your resolution is set to) and slide it to the left for a lower resolution.

- Then click "apply"

If that didn't help, I suggest trying to find the settings for your graphics card and turning down the selected resolution, if possible. I don't have a 6800, so that's the best advice I could give to you at this moment.|||have u tried downloading the latest driver from the web site?

did the monitor comes with driver?|||I would definitely start with your video card driver: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.asp… .|||First I would go to the web site for the Video Card manufacture and see if there are updates for your card. As new monitors come out frequently card manufactures will do software updates (driver software). If that does not work you can tell your monitor to go the the highest level that you video card will support and it should work very well. If this does not solve the problem you can go into the menu key for your monitor and adjust the the video output.|||if i remember correctly

right click the desktop, select properties, settings, and then advanced

there should be a special nvidia tab somewhere. go and browse there to see if you can bump it up to 1440x900

if you can't do 1440x900, then try 1280x800. even though it's not the native resolution, at least it will be widescreen

How can you change a video card to pal ?

My Video card is geforce 4200ti with TV out. When I connect my computer to the tv it turns black white on my tv. I want to change the signal type to PAL.... Please help

Thanks in Advance|||I have had the same symptom with the same card - it is not a NTSC/PAL issue. I seem to remember 2 things regarding this problem. One: was using a s-video to component adapter for an ATI card instead of the nVidia one - I had both and used the wrong one. Two: I booted up the machine and then connected it to the TV, while I should have booted it while connected to the TV.

I don't remember which one was the problem, but eventually it worked.

If it really is a PAL related issue, the control panel for the video drivers has a TV tab if I remember correctly where you can change the system to PAL. Some older cards - (especially ATI used this) had a jumper on the video card that switched between PAL and NTSC.

How do I know if my motherboard will support another video card?

I searched for a question and found that even though my video card (P.O.S.) is integrated, i can still install another into my motherboard. How do I find out if it is capable of doing this?|||See if it has an available PCI-e slot. If it has AGP then you're outta luck, since those cards can't be found anywhere except eBay or the dump. AGP card performance on newer games also suck.|||What's the name of the motherboard ? Check the manual if there is APG or PCI-E slot. You can also install PCI cards but they're pretty slow and gaming sucks.

Will my video card and processor work with the Sims 3?

Video card: Intel(R) 82915G Express Chipset Family

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.93GHz

No idea what any of that means... Just let me know if the game will work correctly here(:|||Your hardware just barely meets specs for Sims 3. The game will install, but I doubt it would run well. You would have to turn down a lot of the graphics to get the game to run smoothly.

According to the Intel site, your motherboard has a PCI Express x16 slot. These are used for adding a video card.

A GeForce 9800GT is about $80-$100 now and would greatly improve how well Sims 3 runs. The video chip set you have now (Intel GMA 900 series) is soldered to the motherboard. They are basically there to have something to plug a monitor into. They are not at all very good for gaming.|||most probably yes.

why don't you simply try?|||Use this, it'll tell you if your system meets the games requirements.

How much of a performance increase can I expect from a new video card?

The video card I'm currently using is an Intel GMA 950 integrated video card 128 mb

The video card I wanna get is Evga Geforce 9800gt 1gb: http://www.compusa.com/applications/sear…

How big a performance difference will there be?|||It'll be a massive increase.

It's hard to quantify, but integrated video shares resources with your processor, while stand alone provides all of it's own ram and processing power.

Just off hand, I'd expect to see about a 15-20 fold increase in performance at least. Especially since you're moving to a fairly powerful card.

The best benchmark I can think of is this: Your current card will not, under any circumstance, play the game "Crysus". The new card will play it just fine (assuming you don't have any extraneous issues, such as a weak PSU or ram bottleneck).|||for gaming the difference will be massive, i upgraded from a built in to a card thats not as good as your card and the difference is still impressive|||There's a huge difference.|||There'll be huge difference. But be that it'll be compatible with your system. What kind of computer do you have and how it is will be important in whether or not you can use this card. You have to have PCI express x16 on your motherboard.|||your graphics performance will be about 8 times better if you get this.|||A video card with 1 gig will run as smooth as butter. there will be an extreme improvment graphic wise.|||JESUS!! Stop in your tracks!!! Please do not get the 9800GT, there REALLY is not a BIG difference between the 9800GT and the 8800GT DDR3...

And plus the 8800GT DDR3 is half the god damn price, the 9800GT was only at most 5fps more then the 8800GT playing call of duty 4.

Please ask around regarding both cards, or even google benchmarks. You will see what I'm talking about. It's half the price, don't forget.

Hope this helps.

Is it possible to install a new video card on a laptop that has an onboard video card?

if i got a new video card could i have it installed?|||no, not a desktop one, they make external laptop ones but rare and expensive to find, close to a thousand....|||It is very, very rare for laptops to have on-board video that can be upgraded. I'm aware of a few models that had this feature, but to my knowledge, none of them are produced anymore.

In general, the only things you can upgrade on a laptop are the hard drive and the memory.

If you want to be able to upgrade the components of the computer, buy a desktop next time.|||no you cant, your best thing to do is buy a desktop computer. you can always upgrade a desktop pc with new video cards, etc..

to get a laptop upgraded will cost more then you paid for you laptop. and its risky. i wouldnt do it if i was you|||It may well be possible, yes, on some computers.

Good idea?....

To replace a video card that is built in the motherboard?

I'm going to install a new video card on my pc, but do I disble the built in video card first, and then install the new one? or just by installing the new one, the motherboard would disable the first one by itself...? or, will it cause a conflict...? what do you know?|||they say it is best to disable it but I never have and it workd fine. The first time I disabled it, I couldnt see anything that I was doing as far as installing the driver forthe new video card. But now I know. If you have a pci, pci express or agp slot video card, just pop it in, install the driver and then go into your settings, right click on the desktop, then hit properties, then go to settings. There will be a drop down list of your video cards, pick the new one, then check "Use this device as my primary monitor" and "Extend my Windows desktop to this monitor" Then apply and ok, the screen will go blankm then you unplug the monitor from the old one and put it in the new one you just installed. Then you can mess around with the settings like resolution etc.|||thanks, I appreciate that. I hope everything worked out.

You can also tell via your OS, but this can be less reliable, especially if you're using some alternative drivers. For example, in Ubuntu, if you use certain restricted drivers for your video card, it won't identify the model correctly; it may get the brand name and the series number, but it may not be exact.

You can replace your video card by buying a new one that connects via the same interface (eg. AGP, PCIe). You should also make sure that your PSU can supply enough power to support your new video card. As long as the new one uses the same interface, replacing it is as easy as yanking out the old card and putting in the new card.

As for where to buy a video card, yes, you can buy them in stores, but you can find a better selection on the Internet. If, however, you are lucky enough to have a decent computer parts shop where you live, you can certainly check there first if you want. It may be more convenient for you.|||Your card will come with directions with pictures. It is actually very simple. You will be able to see which slot matches the plug bit on the graphics card when you look inside the computer.

Just make sure you disable the onboard driver before installing the actual card. But this will be included in your setup steps.

How do i upgrade a video card easily?

i am NOT a technical girl and just need simple instructions.i bought sims 3 and it said it needs video 2 card.how can i get that? thank you soooooo much!|||I agree, its difficult and expensive to upgrade laptop video cards. If you have something that is built into the computer. Some of the more expensive laptops have dedicated graphics cards, but it seems that you don't have one. If it was dedicated then it would run fine. The only downside to laptops is that they're very difficult to upgrade. If your talking about a desktop then no problem. 70 bucks and 20 minutes to install and your good to go.|||if you don't believe your video card is good enough to play sims3, then most likely it is not. Laptop video cards are not easily upgradable, if upgradable at all.

You can either buy a new laptop with a dedicated video card, or return the game if you can. Because upgrading a video card is very unlikely.

Is this a good upgrade for my video card?

I have a gateway GT5228 desktop. I was looking to upgrade the video card, well, put one in it. The video card is built into the motherboard or something. I was wondering what i should upgrade to that cost no more than $60

Any help from computer experts? :) thanks|||Either a HD 5570 or 4670 DDR3 from AMD, GT 520 or GT 430 DDR3 from Nvidia . You also need to upgrade your PSU to 400W. Look for combo deals, you may get both PSU and GPU under $100 or more. Do i have to change my processor when i upgrade my video card and ram?

my processor is a Intel Celeron 2.93GHz .

so do i have to change my processor if i get a

-1GB ram

-$120 video card

?|||You don't have to.But consider that the celeron is pretty weak then you need to think if its a purely work station system or a gamer pc you want out of it.

Also note chances are you might need to change the motherboard if you do decide to change the processor.|||probably not...but i'd think about getting a newer pc if youre thinking to spend that much anyway...|||no you dont have to. unless you're going to change your motherboard along with the video card and ram..|||no. you have an LGA775 socket processor, that's the same socket that the core2duos use. The processor would still be your bottle neck but you would see a vast improvement in your computers proformance.

You would however need a new power supply.|||If your other accessories are in good condition then I will suggest not to change the processor. Does the video card or video memory in a laptop affect video playback if it's connected to a LCD TV?

If I'm sending the laptop video output to my TV with a VGA cable, will the quality of the video card affect the quality of the video I see on the TV? Specifically, I want to watch movies on my laptop, but send the video to my 32" LCD TV.|||No

32" TV, thats probably 720p max.

No laptops graphics should struggle at that resolution, its around the same as any 15.4" laptop screen.

The quality is not affected hugely by the graphics card, you would really have to know what you are looking for to notice any difference between one card and the next for video payback.

Specs (gulp)

OS: Windows XP Media Center

RAM: 1 gig

Video Card: Intel(r) chipset family 910GL

Forgot the name of the motherboard, but it is an average one..... for the year 2004.|||Thats not really specs, thats like tidbits of random information.

Unfortunetly you are running a Integrated CHIP set, which isn't meant for gaming. Even if you buy a new motherboard you will need to buy a new Graphics card.

A new motherboard really won't help.

I suggest thinking of upgrading your desktop as it is almost 8 years old. You can get a great new desktop for around $800.

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com

http://www.ibuypower.com

You can customize your build of your desktop on any of these listed sites. Otherwise just upgrading RAM won't help games as much as a new graphics card.

By the way you forgot to mention your processor which is very important detail|||If you plan on playing any modern games, I recommend getting a new computer, one with more RAM (4gb would probably be a good amount; I have 8gb and no issues), and an actual graphics card rather than an on-board chipset, as they provide far superior performance.|||that is an ancient chipset and I wouldn't sink any money into upgrading it. You need to get a new computer.|||If you have a 910 chipset then don't even bother. You have a Pentium 4 or a Celeron, which is not even worth upgrading for any remotely modern games. A new motherboard? No. A whole new computer. End of story.|||What everyone said. You need a new computer, end of story, if you want to play any newer games.

Luckily computers are inexpensive nowadays and you can get a decent tower for between $500 and $700.|||Definately, you need more RAM|||Graphics card is a must, you'll get away with the ram for now, but recommend at least another 1GB. Also consider a CPU upgrade as old ones may bottleneck games(some games more than others)

Can I run a video card and a sound card in both PCIe x16 slots?

I have a video card in one of the two x16 slots. Now I want to buy a good sound card and I was just wondering if there were any issues about having two different cards like that in both x16 slots...or should I fill one of the regular PCI slots?|||It doesn't really matter, they'll both provide great sound. Keep in mind though that most cards, especially Radeon cards from the HD 3xxx series onward have High-Definition 8-channel audio built into the card and runs off of the DVI or HDMI output. The other option you have is that a ton of sound cards are designed to use the PCI-Express x1 slot.|||The Radeon 5750 will definitely do the job.

You will need to buy a new card and install it, or if you're using a laptop you'll need to get a new computer.|||You are stuck with what you bought. Laptop video is not upgradable.

Most laptop video is not designed for games. Any real games on a laptop require a dedicated video card with dedicated video memory in the laptop. That usually adds a few hundred dollars (at least) to the price of any laptop.

My video card has a dvi, vga and s-video plugs on it, I currently have a vga monitor connected.

Can I just plug in the s-video card and plug it into my TV and see what happens? I don't know if I should disconnect the vga first or not.

Any advice is appreciated.|||Some will plug-and-play as you describe. But others need to be configured for TV output. You shouldn't need to disconnect the VGA, but you may need to enable TV out first.

Also remember that the S-Video out will be much lower resolution than your monitor. When using that output you would probably want to go with no more than 800x600.

If your video card can support dual monitors, the best thing would be to put the TV on one and the VGA on the other. This way you can set the resolution optimally for each.

Is it better to have a video card with more memory or more speed?

I'm shopping for a video card that would be compatible with Vista and at the same time run some new games that are demanding. how ever I'm on a budget. Is it better to sacrifice speed for memory on a video card (my pc has 2 gigs already) or sacrifice memory on the card for speed? |||More speed. More memory onboard just mean you can support higher rez. Doubt you even have the monitor to go up to the max your card's capable of. |||The 2 GB memory in your PC doesn't affect the memory in the video card.

As long as the video card has enough memory for the game, then a higher clock speed generally will give you more performance than additional video memory. So a faster 512 MB video card should outperform a slower 1 GB video card. This will vary by game however.

Visit gaming websites and forums to find out what people think of different video cards for the game(s) that you play.|||I would go with a balance of speed and memory. If you have too much speed and hardly any memory or vice versa, your games would run slow either way.

Get the GeForce 8800 GTS, a great card for a decent price.|||that depends on the memory type in the video card

my friend bought a 512MB DDR3 video card that would out shine my 1GB DDR card.

DDR3 memory is much faster...also much more expensive

I would suggest going for the memory over the speed of the card....high speed with low memory will bottleneck your system|||This is probably you're best bet for a card that supports vista, is pretty cheap and dosen't require any external power connectors or a really good power supply. Best performing part, in fact, that dosen't need extra juice to run...

What is the best Video Card for these specs?

PCI Express X16

DDR2 Memory (Preferably over 256MB)

And it needs to have a good rating.

I have been looking for a good video card but it's becoming difficult to find DDR2 cards as GDDR3 has taken over and now GDDR5 as well. I'm not an extreme FPS gamer (not going to be running any COD or Crysis)

It's not much, but they will play those games. What's your price range?

There are better ones, but this was the cheapest.|||You can use any type of memory when it comes to video cards.

Just because your motherboard supports DDR2 doesn't mean that can't use a video card that has GDDR3 or GDDR5. That only applies to system RAM.

You can use any video card, as long as it's the correct cardbus. In your case, the correct card bus would be PCI Express x16. Just make sure the card will actually fit into your computer. Some video cards are fairly large and won't physically fit into a "slim" computer.|||>DDR2 cards as GDDR3

Your computer's SDRAM memory has nothing to do with what kind of memory your video card uses.

In other words, just pick any PCIE 16x video card. Doesn't matter what RAM you're currently using.

There are lots of video cards in different price ranges to choose from. Generally I like to link video cards with the size of your monitor -- the bigger the monitor, the better the card you should get.

If under 20 inches you'd be looking at spending $120-150 on a decent card like Radeon 4850, Radeon 4870 or Geforce 9600 GT or 9800 GTX.

If over 20 inches, spend about $160-190 on a GTX 260, Radeon 4890 etc

For what you're playing, I would say a card such as the 9800 GT or Radeon 4850 should be enough to handle your games without any hitches.|||okay, lol why do you want a ddr2 cards, those are like almost all gone. But if you must, go to tigerdirect and get the ati 4650, that is ddr2 and it is like under 50 bucks... if anything i recommend getting GDDR3 or get GDDR5.|||id say a Nvidia 8800GTS its not that old still pretty good FPS with it and cheapish now

How do you remove a pci express x 16 video card?

Good luck|||Unplug the computer from power. Press the power button to drain all electical power from the motherboard and power supply. Unplug all electrical connections from the video card.

Remove the screw from the L-shaped, video card bracket that is attached to the rear of the computer.

If you look carefully at the card, you will see that it fits into a raised slot on the motherboard. Ground yourself (very, very important), then run one hand under the card and feel along the end of the slot farthest from the rear of the computer. You should feel a small, plastic tab, that is the lock that holds the card to the motherboard. Gently pull down on the tab and pull out on the video card. The card should slide out of the PCI-E slot.|||1. remove the screw holding the bracket to the back of the computer

2. press up (away from the card) the tab at the end of the PCIe slot

3. While holding the tab, wiggle the card and gently pull the card away from the motherboard

4. If so equipped - remove the power cord from the video card also.|||The tab on the right end of the card slot is a locking mechanism. To release the one in the photo, you would need to lift the tab away from the card slightly to release the lock (straight up in the photo). Make sure that the screw is removed from the retention bracket at the rear of the case, then while holding the tab (lock release), pull the card from the slot.|||With the blue ports in that picture you have to hold the tab at the back of the slot out a bit to unlock the card.

How good or bad is the 'Intel HD Graphics 3000' video card?

Compared to something like a '1GB nVidia GeForce GT525M' Video Card for instance.

Would it be good enough to play games on a laptop...|||The thing is, the "Intel HD Graphics 3000" isn't a real graphics card. It doesn't have any memory of its own and instead takes some of your system's ram and tries to redirect to graphics. This is a bit oversimplified, but cause of that it can never be as good as something like this '1GB nVidia GeForce GT525M' - which comes with "1 GB" of it's own memory. In fact, I wouldn't get that thing expecting to play any games (anything 3d) at all.

As for ranking them, these are really good guides. (make sure you scroll down):

the intel one - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Gr…

the nVidia one - http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeFo…|||intel graphics are absolutely AWFUL, the gt525m is far better, but don't play games on a laptop, gaming or laptop, pick ONE|||Yes, HD 3000 is a very good iGPU and can play most games on it, even many latest games too. But surely its not as good as GT-525M.|||the answer is NOOOOO

intel graphics are mediocre at best. a 1 GB GT525m would blow the HD3000 out of the freakin water.

Is there a way to use the least amount of your video card?

Alow me to explain...

Long story short I can only use my computer in Safe Mode. Sometimes it works in normal mode. My video card is either half fried or something else is wrong with it... Is it possible to use the least amount of requirements of my video card? I just want to be able to go into normal mode... Please anyone help?|||If you are able to go into safe mode, your GPU is not "fried," you need to install driver sweeper in safe mode, uninstall video drivers , and use driver sweeper to remove any vestiges of the video driver or any other video driver while still in safe mode. you should be able to boot into normal after that, where you will be able to reinstall your video drivers.

What is equivalent to a Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family video card?

Any help is greatly appreciated!|||The m7580n has a PCI Express x16 slot. There's no such thing as an x8 slot, only x1 and x16.

Get this, it's silent, cheap, and much faster than the 7300 you're replacing:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you're a gamer, you can of course get a more expensive, higher-performance card, but you may have to upgrade the power supply as well.|||You buy a regular X16 card, it's performance will just be reduced to X8 speed.

My video card has S video plug, can I just connect it and go?

Which video card should I buy for my situation?

I've got a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz chip and I want to put together a dual display setup. I've already got onboard video and I'm wondering which card to get to run the other monitor (assuming one of my monitors CAN be onboard video with a dual setup?). I have PCI slots open as well as AGP. I'm looking to spend between $50-$100, and I want to purchase it from Newegg. I'll be using it for Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and other various desktop publishing tools. The card will be hooked up to either a 17" LCD or a 19" CRT.|||It's possible to do a dual-display setup with your computer but there are some things you should know.

* AGP cards are exclusive so it definitely won't share with your on-board video.

* Some systems are designed to disable on-board video when another video card is inserted (PCI or AGP). It's hard to tell if your system will do that.

No problem though, you just need to buy a video card with two video outputs. I'm familiar with nvidia cards and I know for certain that dual-display is supported in the software so any nvidia card would work as long as two VGA outputs are present on the card. If you plan to connect to one CRT and one LCD with DVI connector, you can use this card then (see picture):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you are doing two CRTs, however, you'll need something like this where they include a DVI-to-VGA adaptor:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

You can also look for dual-VGA video cards like this one but I'm not familiar with ATI products and how easy it is to set it up:

How do I upgrade my laptop(acer notebook) video card?

I have a laptop and it is xp home addition and has a 224mb video card. I cant play the cool titles on my xp with this, so i wont to upgrade my video card to 256mb video card. I have 1Gb memory and direct x 10 with aboout 100gb space. I need to know how to upgrade without taking apart my laptop. I also would like to know how much this would cost. thx.|||Most laptops you cannot upgrade video...its integrated on the motherboard...|||well sorry, you can't! The graphics adapter is built into the motherboard and the monitor is directly connected to it. In terms of laptops everything is inclusive. All you can upgrade is the optical drive and the installed memory except in the situation that the memory slots are all full.

When you buy a desktop, all the features are upgradeable, this is just not the case with a laptop. When you buy a laptop you are stuck with what you get.

There are sometimes that the motherboard supports "shared" video memory, which actually sucks, but it does give the the ability to change how much video memory you have dedicated by taking some away from your system memory. But that is up to the board and software designers and exists only on particular chipset combinations.

Furthermore, if you have 224mb video memory than you probably have a pretty good video chipset in your laptop. If you can't play advanced 3d games it may be something else you lack, like a pixel shader or high speed GPU. these generate a lot of heat, so they aren't frequently used in laptops.

Best of luck!

How do i add a video card to a dell dimension 2400?

i have the computer above and the video card is integrated onto the motherboard and i need to remove it so i can install my new one...do you know how to remove the integrated one?|||You don't have to remove it...disable the onboard video card after you install the new one|||Oh my f**king god....... i have the same computer i gorra check if i have the same problem .... if i do dam ...............|||You cannot, it's integrated ( not removable ).. Sorry|||Just delete the video drivers, and install the new card.

Any problems check the bios (f8), and disable onboard graphics!|||I think what you are trying to say is that you are using onboard video and not a video card.

There are three types of video cards, PCI, PCI Express, and AGP

PCI and PCI express are the newer versions of slots which you will most likely have if you bought your computer within the 2 years.

AGP is older and is the slot you would have if your computer is older than two years.

here is a visual of what the difference is. http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/200…

Once you know which slot you have the installation is very easy and there will be "custom" directions for your specific card included but the basic process is

1. Put in and install software and drivers

2. Power down and open up case removing old video card if any

3. Put in new videocard and make all power connections if any are needed

4. power up and make sure the BIOS recognizes it and your good to go

Can I give more memory to a dedicated video card?

If you were to allow more memory from your ram to be used with your dedicated video card. such as going for 512mb to 1gb. By using my system ram, would that be possible with a m3n78-vm motherboard?|||all modern graphics cards that have a dedicated portion also take from system ram so all possible ram will be being used allready-the only other option is pysical upgrade

I want to buy a video card for my computer? IDK what kind I have a PCI or other?

Can some one help, I recently downloaded Everest ultimate and I didn't or I haven't found my specs for my video card I want to buy. Is there a way I can check what kind of video card I need for my PC.|||Go to start. Click run (or press Windows + R on your keyboard) Type in: DXDIAG

Click the Display tab. In the Device section you'll see the name of the device and manufacturer, how much Video RAM it has and so on.

As to what GPU you should buy, there are a few things you should consider:

> what do you need it for? Gaming? 3d graphics development?

> price. How much you're willing to pay.

> your computer's Power Supply Unit's specifications.

It's kinda hard to tell you what you need when you don't even know what you need one for.|||go to your computer manufacturer website, and go to their support page.. enter your product number/serial number and view the specs you need, it's that simple.

What video card do i need for my Aspire X3200?

I bought this system a couple weeks ago and to my surprise, it doesn't have a manual and i found also that the system has no dedicated video card installed which makes my Call of Duty 4 so annoying. I cannot access Aspire's website and the store I bought it from was very far from my location. Does anyone here have the same system? Does adding something inside void my warranty? please help. thanks.|||WEird, the specs I came up with show it's a nvidia 8400 card. Not onboard.

Pluss it should have a PCI-E slot..

So any card that is PCI-E would do...if you do have the 8400, you probably can't play CoD on the highest settings. You would need to get an 8800 or better.

I just need a video card that can handle games like Star Wars EAW, Age Of Empires, etc.

Thanks!|||If you're in Canada:

If you're in the U.S.
