I think my video card is broken... If I put it in another computer to test it, could it mess that computer up?

It was in this other computer that now won't boot, when I press power it just flashes the lights for half a second and gets half a second of the CPU and case fan spin, but the video card fan does not spin. If I put the video card in another computer to see if it still works, is there a chance that it will mess that computer? Can it break the other computer?? THanks!|||Most defective graphics card would give the error beeps during boot up.

In your case, the quick shutdown indicates that power supply is sensing an overload condition, most likely due to a short in the video card. Power supplies have overload protection (a safety feature to prevent any further damage to system).

Better not test that card in another PC. If power supply of other PC has a higher tolerance for overload condition or slow overload response, it might just cause more damage.|||The only way that your video card could damage the other machine is if there is an issue with the card that will cause a short. Otherwise, no and this is normally how a video card is tested to verify if the issue is either card related or motherboard related.

If this is a AGP/PCI/PCIe, you will want to make sure there are no burnt marks on it, as this is a clear sign of a short on the card. Also make sure that it is seated in the slot correctly, as if it is is not it can cause the same issues you are stating now.
